82/100 MARKING COMMENTS

Research & Planning 19/20:An excellent research and planning folder.  The planning stages are well documented as is the documented on-going decisions and alterations made.  Plenty of planning, both in drawn format and digital (alterations/fonts/images etc) demonstrates the thought that was put into the completed artefacts.  Time management has been excellent throughout the research and planning stage and this candidate was a driving force within the group.  All the work is complete and well-presented and there isn’t anything else the candidate could have added.  Credit for putting together something so comprehensive and ensuring it is updated to create this online process.  Research is in depth and analytical.  An excellent blog.

Main Text 34/40:
A music video which is let down by their performer, something which as markers and moderators we over look but for us it has a bearing on the completed artefact.  With such an impassive rendition of the song during the initial lip synching scenes the video starts at a merely proficient level.  Thankfully it does get better, it goes on to show excellent technical skill (the stop animation scenes are a nice touch and work very well), excellent understanding (the sense of a narrative piece which has a beginning, middle and end) and a good knowledge of the conventions.  Editing is of a high level and has been completed so that meaning is apparent.  The POV shots whilst a nice idea doesn’t quite work and it would have been nice to have an ending to the video, perhaps some sort of coda?  Overall, an excellent video with some proficient elements.  Higher marks awarded to Halai, Neha (6081) and Mills, Samantha (6125) due to the absence of Kerai, Jaymini (6011) and their extended involvement in the project.

Ancillary Task 1 (CD Cover) 8/10:
A response which is easily proficient but falls just short of excellence.  There is awareness of conventions, there is understanding of genre and an obvious target audience.  Unfortunately the main image looks too dour and despite the nice effects added to it (demonstrating technical skills) it fails to really show creativity and an awareness of what is required.  The back of the CD cover looks good and the silhouette works well.

Ancillary Text 2 (Magazine Advert) 8/10:
A proficient response which demonstrates awareness of conventions and understanding of layout but lacks the creativity and spark of top level work.  The effect of having the poster ‘torn’ is a good idea and works to create a level of creativity but once again this artefact would perhaps have benefitted from a re-shoot.  The main image, although being framed appropriately and proficiently suiting the genre doesn’t stand up to much attention.  Everything that should be on there is on there but more could have been made of this artefact, proficient none the less.

Evaluation 17/20:
A complete and well thought out evaluation, well presented and using a variety of software and websites to present the information.  All questions are answered and answered to an excellent level demonstrating this candidate’s understanding and appreciation of the key media concepts.  I feel there could have been more feedback from the audience (audio or perhaps visual) but the work demonstrates the candidate understands the role audiences play in practical production.  Q4 (new technologies) does feature a variety of devices/sites/software etc. but lacks the work of top L4 productions.  It is an excellent evaluation.
