73/100 MARKING COMMENTS

Research & Planning 16/20:Evidence of in depth, excellent research into similar products with an excellent understanding of conventions of music videos on display in this candidates extended analysis of the given medium.  This group (and specifically this student at times) suffered from poor time management, occasionally due to motivation.  The research element of this blog is excellent so to is the planning stage.  There are little bits that let this candidate down (a simplistic storyboard being one) but there is lots here to credit.  The level of ICT skills on display is excellent as is the presentation of the research and planning.  Organisation was proficient and time management was OK but there is enough here to award it L4.

Main Text 30/40:
Time management was an issue for this candidate (and their group) and this has had an effect on a lot of work submitted by them.  This candidate could be evasive, often being absent from lessons and the only way the work was completed was in a mad dash at the end.  Whilst this is by and large a completed blog (there are one or two items missing), having marked it recently a fair amount has been added in the last week!  This research and planning folder bodes the question “what has this student been doing”?  There is a proficient amount of work into the technical completion of the print artefacts but these lack research (on Adele/Duffy cover). Some really good, in depth analysis of music videos (candidates were asked to submit 5, there are 4 here) demonstrates that this candidate has the ability, it seems they lacked the inclination.   There is some work done but it isn’t of a consistent standard failing to understand the link between a well-planned final project and a well-executed and completed piece.  Too often excuses were found to not do work, very disappointing.

Ancillary Task 1 (CD Cover) 8/10:
A proficient response which demonstrates skill, knowledge and understanding.  Some well taken photographs and good skill demonstrated in the edit means this is a very good response.  There is ability evident in creating this artefact but it lacks some of the finish expected of top grade submissions.  A pleasing aesthetic is achieved with continuity with the promo with typography and 'feel'.  Appropriately framed and finished on the PC.

Ancillary Text 2 (Magazine Advert) 4/10:
This artefact is a real disappointment for us.  Three students who are all able and skilled on Photoshop have produced something well below par.  There are some simple mistakes (the iTunes logo has not been cut around, there is a strange growth from the side of the main image) and these you would hope would have been spotted and remedied.  There is basic understanding evident in the composition (the placing of the copy at the top) the main image does not demonstrate proficient skill in the taking of the photo or the edit and there seems to be little creative spark behind it.  A basic response.

Evaluation 18/20:
An excellent response.  There is excellent use of digital technology and ICT in the evaluation, the use of Prezzie avoided going through even more PPT slides on Slideshare and the use of audio to provide feedback worked very well.  Excellent understanding of the forms and conventions with a good choice of ‘real texts’ to compare with.  There is excellent understanding of the use of new media (although I question whether a tripod is ‘new media’!) and excellent understanding of the combination of the main task and the ancillary texts.  Audience feedback is discussed in detail and has clearly influenced the final artefacts, demonstrating the candidates understanding of the significance of audience feedback.  The evaluation is well presented and in a variety of well used formats, excellent ability to communicate.
